Command-line interface (CLI) is an operating environment where text commands are given to a computer. For a command line command, the computer often responds to the text. For example, the FPC compiler is used from the command line and it also responds with text to the command line ( Of course it does more than that). A shell is a program that handles commands from a command line. Application programs may also have command line interfaces.
