The purpose of this page is to discuss how far Lazarus and FPC should be merged. This isn't a democratic vote but a place for the developers to collect their opinions.

Website

Yes. Avoids user confusion and reduces administration when it's done --FPK 11:26, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

Yes, but consider something like "1 company, 2 products" - people not interested in GUI stuff (for whatever reason) should be still able to find "their" product easily. --xhajt03 15:22, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

Yes, general pages the same, development sites different? --Marcov

I would suggest to create different pages that however share a similar design principle and link to the respective other version. The design could be based on the new Lazarus website from June 2013, but the colors should differ for Free Pascal (e.g. green or orange). --Jwdietrich 21:05, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Forums

Yes. Saves administration work and makes it easier for users to find the right place to ask. --FPK 11:26, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

If the forums are merged then we need a better forum. The current Lazarus forum has some issues:

  • Lot´s of people can´t register
  • Bad organization of the topics. You will notice that forums such as Misc or General have a lot more posts then the others. This shows that the topics are badly organized.

Bug tracker

Not sure. --FPK 11:26, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

Good idea. With mantis you can easily define projects and move issues between projects. -- Vincent 14:48, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

I'd say so - we shouldn't ask users to use two different bug trackers. Furthermore, sometimes a bug which seemed to be related to Lazarus only needs to be re-routed to compiler or RTL. -- xhajt03 15:38, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

Yes, current FPC system is a kludge anyway. -- Marco

Yes. --Jwdietrich 21:05, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Hint: there are no multiple bug trackers any more, just a single tracker with multiple projects, so discussing merging trackers is somewhat surreal now. --BigChimp 10:16, 1 October 2013 (CEST)

Common core mailing list

No, creates too much noise. But introduce a new list lazarus-fpc-core for people being involved in things affecting both projects. --FPK 11:26, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

No, but make it possible for more people to post to lazarus-developer list. -- Vincent 14:51, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

Wiki

Yes, saves administration work --FPK 11:26, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

Yes -- Vincent 14:49, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

Yes. --Jwdietrich 21:06, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Releases

No, requires too much coordination, already getting the FPC releases within a reasonable time frame is hard. --FPK 11:26, 15 Jan 2006 (CET)

I think coordinating release engineering is more important than synchronized releases. 99% of the Lazarus users, when given the choice will use the one provided with Lazarus anyway. So let's make it easier to make an all-in-one release Marcov 19:37, 4 Feb 2006 (CET)
