Note: using the batch files above, won't you need to copy over some .so libs from the raspberry to your Windows build environment as well (e.g. the c runtime), especially when writing Lazarus/GTK applications? --BigChimp 13:57, 10 January 2014 (CET)
Raspian Jessie version bump
Under Jessie, which is now the main branch of Raspian, they've bumped the stock-installed version to 1.2.4. I haven't confirmed it on the RPI1 yet, but it should make building the latest version from source much easier.
