Note that starting with 2.2.2, there will be no more packages base and packages extra because all will have been folded into the packages/ subdir. The separation into base and extra was originally because of a simplistic dependancy system (compile base -> fcl -> extra -> fv -> ide), which is no longer needed due to better packaging tools.
